Abstract
- The Lp(a) lipoprotein1 is a distinct class of serum lipoprotein particles which was detected because of its immunological properties. It consists of a low density lipoprotein (LDL) particle to which a long polypeptide chain has been attached (the Lp(a) polypeptide chain, the Lp(a) apolipoprotein or apolipoprotein(a)). It is the Lp(a) polypeptide chain that confers the unique antigenic properties to the Lp(a) lipoprotein particle.
