The image of the Nizhny Novgorod Fair Theater in the travelogues of the XIX century

The article examines the image of the Makaryev (later Nizhny Novgorod) Fair theater by Russian and foreign travelers of the XIX century – O. Reman, I. Dolgoruky, D. Khvostov, A. Ostrovsky, S. Maksimov, M. Semevsky, P. Kropotkin, L. Carroll, P. Krushevan and N. Garin-Mikhailovsky. The relevance of the research is due to the growing interest in the problem of national identity and identity. A brief description of the development of the theater in Russia in the XIX century is given, the origins of its origin in Nizhny Novgorod are traced. It is shown that the image of the Makaryev/Nizhny Novgorod Fair Theater in travel essays, notes and letters has its own characteristic, provincial feature, manifested and reflected through the prism of perception of metropolitan and foreign guests. Travelers pay special attention to the description of the actors' performance, their costumes and work with the public. The article provides examples of the names of plays, local and visiting artists, the structure of the theater itself. In this paper, the theme of fair theater in travelogues of Russian and foreign travelers is considered within the framework of comparative historical and complex methods, while observing the chronological order of the study. The results of a comparative analysis of the works of authors who have created their own interpretation and vision of the Nizhny Novgorod Fair Theater, which has become a kind of personification of the intentions and attempts of entrepreneurs of the XIX century to bring and turn a provincial and little-known theater into a place that is the center of attraction for people of different classes and rank, are presented. The novelty and uniqueness of the study is due to the fact that the image of the fair theater of the XIX century is presented and considered from the point of view of its perception by contemporaries who have formed their own individual and in many cases unflattering opinion.
В статье рассматривается изображение Макарьевского (впоследствии Нижегородского) ярмарочного театра русскими и зарубежными путешественниками XIX века – О. Реманом, И. Долгоруким, Д. Хвостовым, А. Островским, С. Максимовым, М. Семевским, П. Кропоткиным, Л. Кэрроллом, П. Крушеваном и Н. Гарин-Михайловским. Актуальность исследования обусловлена возрастающим интересом к проблеме национальной идентичности и самобытности. Дается краткая характеристика развития театра в России в XIX столетии, прослеживаются истоки его зарождения в Нижнем Новгороде. Показано, что образ Макарьевского/Нижегородского ярмарочного театра в путевых очерках, заметках и письмах имеет свою характерную, провинциальную особенность, проявляющуюся и отражающуюся через призму восприятия столичных и иностранных гостей. Особое внимание путешественники уделяют описанию игры актеров, их костюмам и работе с публикой. В статье приводятся примеры названий пьес, артистов местных и приезжих, устройство самого театра. В настоящей работе тема ярмарочного театра в травелогах русских и иностранных путешественников рассматривается в рамках сравнительно-исторического и комплексного методов при соблюдении хронологического порядка исследования. Представлены результаты сопоставительного анализа произведений авторов, создавших свою интерпретацию и видение Нижегородского ярмарочного театра, ставшего своеобразным олицетворением намерения и попытки антрепренеров XIX столетия приблизить и превратить провинциальный и малоизвестный театр в место, являющееся центром притяжения людей разного сословия и чина. Новизна и уникальность исследования связана с тем, что образ ярмарочного театра XIX века представлен и рассмотрен с точки зрения его восприятия современниками, сложивших свое индивидуальное и во многих случаях нелестное мнение.
