Screening for Comorbidities and Complications of T1D

Youth with type 1 diabetes are at risk of other autoimmune disorders, including autoimmune thyroid disease, celiac disease, and rarely adrenal insufficiency. Monitoring of blood pressure and lipid screening are recommended given the risk for cardiovascular disease in individuals with diabetes. Retinopathy is relatively uncommon in youth, and recommendations regarding screening have recently been updated. Psychosocial disorders including disordered eating, depression, and anxiety are common and should be considered in youth with T1D.
