Abstract

A novel volume estimator is proposed to solve the problem of 2-dimensional hyperbolic location, which is unlike most of previous methods focusing on solving the hyperbolic or spherical interpolation equations. The source coordinate are expressed as linear combination of the coordinates of the base stations and the weight vector is estimated as the singular vector corresponding to the minimum singular value of a matrix obtained from range-difference measurements. Simulation results show that the proposed estimator is superior to both the spherical interpolation method and Chan's method.
