Abstract

Search engines play a significant role in improving the effectiveness with which internet users retrieve information. There are various search engines available on the internet with Google and Bing being among the most popular ones. The study, therefore, sought to compare the effectiveness of Google and Bing search engines in an effort to determine the one among them that is more preferred by users. Both qualitative and quantitative aspects were considered in the study where the quantitative methods revealed the statistics while qualitative technique relied on the feedback from users. The findings indicated that Google is preferred in as far as navigational and informational queries are concerned hence implying that customers have more confidence in Google search engine compared to Bing. Google search engines tend to give better precision in cases where simple few words’ queries are involved. Bing on the other hand could be relied upon for better precision in cases where complex multi-word queries are involved.
