Abstract

Fe(Co)5 is thermally reduced to Fe(C) in the presence of monomolecular flakes of MoS2. The magnetic properties of particles produced by the decomposition of Fe(CO)5 and subsequent thermal annealing are described. Comparison of the properties of primarily χ‐Fe5C2 carbides prepared with and without the presence of MoS2 flakes show that enhanced coercivity is achieved by including MoS2 in the processing.
