Abstract

1. Periplanone A (PA) and periplanone B (PB), the sex pheromones of the American cockroach, were isolated from the filter paper shelters dirtied by 11,500 females of the insect and their faeces. 2. PA whose structure was confirmed to be a germacratrienone oxide structure was a rather stable compound. 3. In order to verify the genuineness of PA, its receptor participation was examined by DS-EAG method. 4. PA was revealed to participate with the corresponding specific pheromone receptor.
