Abstract

The results of an experimental study of the temperature dependence of commercial BF3 neutron counters are reported. The arrangement used for this investigation is described and the results analyzed. The conclusion is reached that during a given pulse there is an increase in the number of negative ions formed by electron attachment with an increase in temperature of the tube. This effect is an equilibrium process. Upon reduction of the tube temperature the tube characteristics return to their original values. The consequence of this temperature dependence on the resultant counting rate is discussed.
