Abstract
- In light of the proposal of the International Civil Aviation Organization and International Maritime Organization joint working group on harmonization of aeronautical and maritime search and rescue (ICAO/IMO JWG-SAR) 27th meeting, which points out that the current International Aviation and Maritime Search and Rescue (IAMSAR) standard man overboard (MOB) maneuvers may not be suitable for very large carriers, the authors briefly summarize the research on the MOB recovery maneuvers in recent years and conduct an investigation on the serviceability of these maneuvers by a series of full-scale sea trials. The sea trial results indicate that the standardized recovery maneuvers are serviceable to the employed oil/chemical tanker. However, similar to the simulation results obtained in the previous studies, there is a deviation in the Scharnov turn.
