Abstract

Modernization and expansion of three hydroelectric power facilities on Salt River, Arizona. The facilities include the modernizing of existing 25 Hz units and the expansion of power facilities by addition of pump storage units to provide a source of peaking power. Comparisons are given of peaking capacity by older stream units, diesel driven units, hydro units, and gas turbines along with system capacity determinations and plant operations, during summer and winter months. The economic evaluation on the basis of present worth for various alternative sources of peaking power is included along with an outline of the new power generation and pump storage units and their appurtenances.
