The Contribution of a Key Scenario to Care Leavers’ Transition to Higher Education

Abstract
- This qualitative study examines the role of care leavers’ key scenario related to successful integration into higher education in Israel. Interviews with 45 young people revealed the major role of the Israeli key scenario—which includes higher education—for the transition to adulthood. Three main narratives emerged: (1) first of all—it’s home; (2) the care facility made it possible; and (3) there it started, in the care facility. The study results suggest that residential care facilities have the ability to help young people realize their key scenario or revise it in order to support their integration into higher education. Care facilities should make greater efforts to impart the value of education in order to help care leavers integrate successfully into society.
