Delirium in Switzerland

Based on the Geneva clinical practice to prevent and treat delirium, a review of the Swiss literature on this topic allows us to stress the key points concerning this frequent geriatric syndrome. Emergency admissions, post surgery periods as well as nursing home admissions are key risk events precipitating the onset of delirious episodes. A careful screening and the use of validated diagnostic tools allow reducing both the incidence of delirium as well as the nursing team workload. Swiss non-pharmacologic as well as pharmacologic approaches are carefully described.
