Abstract

Pupation of female Trogoderma glabrum (Herbst) is inhibited by small rearing containers and stimulated by relatively high population density. In the absence of a granular substrate and males of the species, mature females fail to pupate, and they undergo additional larval molts. Pupation is weakly stimulated by long-day photo-periods. Female larvae that have undergone several retromolts regain weight and maturity rapidly when incubated in nutrient medium. Regrown larvae fail to pupate at optimal rate unless exposed to both long-day photoperiods and males of the species.
