Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to make a comparative study of the cost of instruction in various high schools and in several departments of instruction. The data were obtained from nineteen high schools in the northeastern part of Illinois. Principals and teachers filled out statistical blanks. A sample is shown below. The enrolment at mid-year was the basis for the number of pupils per teacher. In addition to the information thus obtained a letter was sent to each school from which was ascertained the length of term and the number of subjects carried by each pupil.
