Abstract

The spontaneous molecular magnetic moment M s =5.15 μ B and the Curie temperature T C =208 K of the uniaxial ferromagnet U 2 Co 13.6 Si 3.4 are considerably lower than that of the isostructural compound Lu 2 Co 13.6 Si 3.4 . The magnetic and magnetoelastic properties of both compounds show no evidence of a U-sublattice contribution to the magnetism.
