Abstract

A new, small-sized, multiple-loop-antenna system easily constructed from a single metal plate and able to generate concurrent 2.4 and 5 GHz bands for wireless local area network (WLAN) operation is presented. The design comprises four one-wavelength loop antennas, arranged perpendicular to and set along a square antenna ground, and occupies overall dimensions 10 mm × 75 mm × 75 mm. The four loops and the antenna ground were all integrated into one-piece flat plate. The loop was bent few times in a compact fashion such that parts of the antenna resonance path were merged into the ground plane. In this case, a multiantenna system with a simple structure and compact size was achieved for the WLAN applications. Good radiation characteristics were also obtained. Details of the design are described in the article. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 56:208–215, 2014
