Abstract

An atomistic model which provides a consistent picture of the formation of gap states in the prototype material pentacene is presented and the influence of these states on the operation of thin-film transistors. Gap states are formed by an electrochemical process. The required formation energy depends on the electrochemical potential which can be controlled by the applied bias voltage.
