Emerging Challenges in Kashmir: The Way Forward

Kashmir has been facing widespread and severe unrest since the elimination of a Hizbul Mujahideen commander. The reasons for continued bloodshed, violence and disorder are multiple. Ranging from psychological disenchantment of Kashmiri people to unabated interference by Pakistan and from the role and utilization of security forces to lack of meaningful political dialogue for resolving the long-standing dispute, Kashmir issue has come to haunt the Indian state. The article argues that sincere efforts need to be made to find a lasting solution to the Kashmir problem which cannot be treated as an administrative issue or a problem that only requires law and order solution.
