Abstract

Apparatus of the type often referred to as ‘Patternator’ has been constructed which enables the distribution and rate of discharge of agricultural spray nozzles to be measured accurately and rapidly. It is also suitable for checking and recalibrating nozzles whose characteristics may have changed during use. The distribution is measured by directing the spray on to a channelled table with calibrated collecting tubes at the ends of the channels. The throughput is measured directly by flow meters. The patternator is intended for laboratory use and when there is a regular requirement for checking the performance of large numbers of nozzles. It has many refinements which assist in providing quick and accurate results. A brief description is given of the method and construction and the sources of supply of the principal components. More detailed advice for intended constructors can be obtained from the authors.
