Abstract
- Smog chamber/FTIR techniques were used to study the Cl atom initiated oxidation of CH 3 C(O)CH 2 CH 3 in 700–760 Torr of N 2 at 296 K. The reaction of Cl atoms with CH 3 C(O)CH 2 CH 3 proceeds via hydrogen abstraction with 73 ± 9% of reaction occurring at the –CH 2 – group. Relative rate techniques were used to measure k (Cl + CH 3 C(O)CHClCH 3 ) = (5.62 ± 0.81) × 10 −12 cm 3 molecule −1 s −1 . It was deduced that the CH 3 C(O)CHCH 3 radical reacts with Cl 2 with a rate constant of the order of 10 −14 to 10 −13 cm 3 molecule −1 s −1 .
