Abstract

The main objective of this chapter is to update the chapter published in the previous book edition of the same title, in order to provide the reader a continuity in the coverage of the topic over three decades. This chapter describes the use of two electrically driven microcolumn separation techniques, namely capillary electrophoresis and capillary electrochromatography (CEC), in the analysis of carbohydrates. Also, this chapter complements other chapters in this book, which cover some specific areas connected very closely to areas described here such as detection and derivatization, just to name a few. The coverage of CEC in carbohydrate analysis is perhaps summarized exclusively in this chapter. Overall, although this review chapter has 181 references, it cannot be viewed as an exhaustive treatment of the literature, but it rather seeks to discuss important principles and applications.
