Abstract

Geometrical imperfections in gears can alter significantly the ways in which load and motion are transmitted. This paper describes these effects in a manner which is applicable to all types of gears, leading to a greater understanding of the problems of accurate indexing, vibration and noise, and composite inspection techniques. Theoretical and experimental comparisons are made between single and dual flank composite testing methods, the results of which suggest that these methods need to be reviewed and extended.
