Facile synthesis of fused benzo-1,2,3-thiadiphospholes, a new heterocyclic system

The reaction of thioanisole with PCl3 and AlCl3 leads to the title compound; its structural characterization is based on spectroscopic studies and confirmed by a single crystal X-ray diffraction of its dimethyl derivative.
