Abstract

A steady two-dimensional MHD flow of an incompressible, inviscid, electrically conducting fluid past an elliptic cylinder (of small eccentricity) is considered for the aligned field case when the magnetic diffusivity (η m ) is large. Attempt is made to find the interaction of the field and the motion, and also the drag force experienced by the cylinder by retaining the non-linear terms. It is found, to a first approximation, that the drag force is independent of the fluid density; the drag force for a circular cylinder is also deduced.
