The Religious Role of the Algerian Holy Quran Channel: A Field Survey of a Sample of Viewers

In light of the international and regional changes through which identity and religious systems have become more vulnerable to cultural penetration and as protecting the cultural and religious characteristics of targeted communities becomes a strategic issue, the media, and specifically visual media, can play a specific role in Algeria’s national effort to strengthen the country’s intellectual security and preserve its privacy. The media can also help rein in the intensive media coverage that is constantly broadcasted and then consumed by all factions of our society. Hence, the studies that examine media experiences in this area and that engage in characterizing and diagnosing the impressions Arab viewers have of the religious television channels and of the religious media in general are crucial to identifying their strengths and weaknesses in order to develop the strategic role previously mentioned. This study aims to survey the opinions of a sample of Algerian viewers regarding the educational and religious role played by the Fifth Algerian Channel.
