System of Emotion Estimation Support by Shape Identification of Facial Areas for the Elderly

Humans change not only words but also facial expressions to express various emotions, which are factors that promote rich communication. However, it is difficult for users, such as the elderly or visually impaired, who have difficulty obtaining non-verbal information from others or who have difficulty communicating their feelings to others (i.e., those who have difficulty reading feelings) to use expressions to communicate with them. Therefore, in the communication of the user who has difficulty in recognizing the expression of the other party, the support to estimate the emotion of the other party is very useful. In addition, humans change the shape of the face part in one emotion and form various facial expressions. In this paper, we describe the effectiveness of the emotion estimation support system using the recognition of the facial part shape.
