Advanced Methods for Screening and Identification of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is among the most important causes of human infections in the twenty-first century and is found in both hospitals and communities. Early and accurate detection and characterization of MRSA are essential for appropriate therapeutic treatment as well as for infection control. This review focuses on the utility and performance of currently available advanced techniques for rapid and accurate screening and identification of MRSA, especially on evolving rapid nucleic acid amplification-based methods.
