Abstract
- Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) has been considered the best choice for access networks. Since EPON is supposed to deliver different types of traffic, supporting differentiated services in EPON becomes an important issue. This paper discusses how the differentiated services can be provided by medium access control (MAC) protocol in EPON. We combine the bandwidth guarantee polling (BGP) scheme with the strict priority scheduling specified by IEEE 802.1D to support differentiated services. The simulation results show that our proposed technique can effectively provide differentiated services to different classes of traffic in the EPON
