Abstract
- In this paper the design of heat recovery systems for paper machines is studied by means of a sequential modular flow-sheeting program. The program is used for economical optimization of the heat recovery system with respect to its design variables. In the optimization, the objective function, calculated by the flow-sheeting program, is mapped to an approximate model, which is repeatedly updated and optimized. The values of the design variables used in the mapping are provided by factorial experiments. Analyses have predicted that considerable steam savings can be obtained if the heat recovery systems that are designed by the use of current standard practice are replaced by optimized systems. The early venture profit of the system can usually be increased by about 5% by means of optimization.
