Abstract
- The traditional view holds that glass forming ability decreases with increase of mold temperature. In this study, however, abnormal increase of glass forming ability in high pressure die casting was observed when mold temperature exceeded 413 K. Thermodynamic analysis of interfacial transport reveals that the rising glass forming ability beyond the critical mold temperature is mainly ascribed to the increase of interfacial heat transfer coefficient, which results from a better heat contact between mold and casting due to the elimination of skin effect.
