Tuberculosis Research in European Countries: A Model for Programmatic Scale Up

The European Region of the World Health Organization (WHO) incorporates 53 Member States with reported rates of tuberculosis (TB) incidence ranging from near elimination to rates exceeding 100 per 100,000 population. Top 9 of the 30 countries with the higher multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) burden globally are in the WHO European Region. Outdated tools to prevent, detect and treat tuberculosis limit health systems in the region to provide equitable and equable TB care provision.
