Abstract
- The herpes simplex virus (HSV) is associated with possible risks for both the mother and fetus, and potential complications may arise throughout pregnancy, including transmission in utero, intrapartum and postpartum. This article discusses the prevalence and risk factors for acquiring the virus, and the pharmacological, surgical, complementary and alternative treatment options. HSV-2 and its significance in pregnancy is also explored, including the management during and after pregnancy.
