Abstract

The College Self-Expression Scale is a 50 item self-report inventory which is designed to measure assertiveness in college students. The scale taps three dimensions of assertivenss (positive assertiveness, negative assertiveness, and self denial) in a variety of interpersonal contexts: family, strangers, business relations, authority figures, and like and opposite sex peers. Normative, reliability, and validity data are presented. The value of the scale to both clinicians and researchers is discussed.
