Abstract

Treatment of wool with dilute ammonia solutions containing salt for short times at low temperatures modifies the wool to make it readily dyeable at 50–70°C. A saline ammonia scouring procedure to produce an easily dyed wool has been developed and has been evaluated both as a scouring procedure with particular preservation of wool quality and as a means of producing wool that can be dyed at 50–70°C. A short-time dyeing cycle for Lanasol (CGY) dyes is considered in detail.
