Abstract
- Recently, multifunctional coatings offering simultaneous tribological benefits and protection from adverse environments are gaining widespread attention. While, metallic coatings offer excellent durability, their performance is limited to ambient temperature. In this study, it is shown that plasma sprayed Graphene nanoplatelates (GNPs) reinforced CeO2 (CG) coatings offer excellent tribological properties both at room and high temperature. Interestingly, unlike conventional coatings where wear property degrades at high temperature, the wear properties of CG keeps on improving from RT to 873 K. Maximum reduction in wear rate (260%) and COF (26%) was observed at 873 K. It is believed that this coating could pave the path for designing coatings operating at high temperature.
