The Symposium on the Transparency of the Cornea

Abstract

That type of meeting called symposium, in which a selected few gather to discuss some topic of mutual interest, seems to be the mode of our times. The occasion of the recent International Congress of Ophthalmology in Brussels stimulated the holding of several such symposia having no official connection with the Congress itself and being held in various parts of Europe either before or after the Congress. One of these symposia, "The Transparency of the Cornea," was organized by Sir Stewart Duke-Elder under the auspices of the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences. It was the second symposium to be held under such auspices and, like the first ("Glaucoma," 1954), the presentations are to be published in book form. This symposium was held over a five-day period in one of Belgium's deluxe hotels at the coastal resort of Kokke-Le Zoute. The chairman maintained an atmosphere of informality and good-natured
