Abstract
- A study is made of a variational principle which provides upper and lower bounds for the polarizability under a perturbation with imaginary frequency. As an example bounds for the imaginary frequency polarizability of atomic hydrogen and ensuing limits for the constant of van-der-Waals interaction of two hydrogen atoms are calculated.
