Abstract

The title molecular complex, 4-(5-nitro-1H-indazol-3-yl)piperazin-1-ium 3,5-dinitroindazolide, C 11 H 14 N 5 O 2 + .C 7 H 3 N 4 O 4 − .CH 3 OH, (5), was obtained by treatment of 2,5-dinitroindazole with piperazine in methanol. It consists of 3,5-dinitroindazole (molecule A), 5-nitro-3-piperazinoindazole (molecule B) and methanol. The structure of (5) is discussed on the basis of X-ray analysis and literature data. Molecule B forms a H 2 N + < ammonium cation with a positive charge in the piperazine moiety as a result of the incorporation of the pyrrolic H atom of molecule A. The pyridinic and pyrrolic N atoms of molecule A are linked by hydrogen bonds to the piperazine N atom of molecule B and the O atom of methanol, respectively
