Abstract

The chemiluminescence-depletion (c.d.) method has been employed in a study of the relative rates of vibrational relaxation of HCl(v= 2–4) in collisions with CO2. The rate constant k(v→v-1) increases approximately with v2 over the range from v= 1–4. The rotational dependence of the vibrational transfer efficiency, k(v, J→v-1), gives evidence of a decrease toward higher J of the donor molecule.
