Abstract
- Cryptosporidium has emerged as a major cause of diarrheal illness worldwide, especially among young children and patients with infectious or iatrogenic immune deficiencies. The authors report a case of mild cryptosporidiosis with delayed diagnosis in a stem cell transplant recipient probably due to confusion between digestive cryptosporidiosis and acute gastrointestinal graft-versus-host-disease. Clinical and parasitologic improvement was observed after a 3-day course of nitazoxanide and especially a reduction of immunosuppressive therapy.
