Abstract

In this paper, a novel design concept of continuously variable planetary gearset (CVPG) is proposed, which is using a belt continuously variable transmission with a planetary gearset to achieve the changing of the gear ratio and is also possible to achieve continuous gear ratio changes. Compared to the conventional planetary gearset, our new CVPG has a potential capability of gear ratios with a continuous range. We expect the new design can change speed seamlessly and be applied to vehicle powertrain systems.
