Abstract

We report the first organic light emitting diode with a highly efficient electron transport and Ohmic cathode contact layer using nanostructured carbon fullerene (nanOLED). Fullerene or nanobuckyball (NBB) has high mobility for electron transport and forms an Ohmic contact to LiF/Al cathode (nanoCathode). It lowers driving voltage by ∼2V and improves power efficiency by 30∼50%. Due to its robust interface structure, NBB devices show longer lifetime and higher stability. It also provides better tunability for full colour displays compared with devices using Alq as electron transport materials.
