Abstract

In this chapter, we have studied the effects of livelihood, stress levels and awareness of risks associated to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) on the people of Idindhakarai (Tamil Nadu, India) to highlight their six and more years of struggle. The people are aware of the nuclear power and its risks, hence causing them to lead a distressing life every day. The stress level of the general population had been ascertained to be a score of 7.6/10. The government had no disaster management teams and no policy programmes in place for providing basic facilities, at an accessible distance. KKNPP 2017 update—Even after several years of protest, there is no change in the government policies and no proper response from the government.
