Abstract

This work aims quantify and analyze the biomass of a forest area belonging to the Natural Space of the Alynia Mountain, located in Catalonia, Spain, by means of remote sensing tools. Thus for the study, they were used LiDAR data of the study area. From these data two Digital Terrain Models (Digital Surface Model and Digital Elevation Model of Vegetation) were generated, and other relevant statistical calculations were performed to then calculate the biomass, basal area and number of feet. The information obtained was embodied in maps to represent the results and other parameters related to biomass. As a result of this work, models of biomass, basal area and number of trees had a good relationship with the inventory data, so it was possible to estimate these parameters for the study area. In fact calculating biomass by LiDAR data resulted in 3059.76 tons for an area of 24.52 has drawn in the study area, while the inventory calculations resulted from 3341.42 tons in the same area. So, can be say that the LiDAR technology provides forestry research a number of applications, from dasometric order and / or dendrometry necessary for effective forest management.
