13. Smilax sumatrensis (A.DC.) P.Li & C.X.Fu, comb. nov. Basionym: Heterosmilax sumatrensis de Candolle (1878: 42). Type: INDONESIA. Sumatra, Korthals 149 (holotype L!). Heterotypic synonym: Heterosmilax borneensis de Candolle (1878: 42). Type: INDONESIA. Kalimantan: Bangarmassing, Aug 1857, Motley 1211 (holotype K!). Note: Heterosmilax sumatrensis and H. borneensis were published on the same page of de Candolle's (1878) monograph. Koyama (1984) treated the former as a synonym of H. borneensis because the type specimen of H. borneensis better exhibited the characteristics of the species. This epithet cannot be used, however, because of S. borneensis de Candolle (1878: 202), so the other epithet must be used instead.
