A Special Characters of Hungarian Educational System in the Era of Austria-Hungary Monarchy

Abstract

After the Hungarian Monarchy integrated with Austria, the most significant achievement came from the education field. The goal of the new Monarchy in education policy was to fight against illiteracy, and educate citizens. To achieve the objective, systematic and organized plans were settled, and the schools were built according to those plans. There was remarkable growth in terms of system including increased number of the students, teachers and classrooms. At the end of the Monarchy, the education system became as firm as other developed countries such as Germany. Most of the explosive growth of the education system was done under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but the higher education and the development of the study was done mainly in the age of Horthy. The educational development which started in the late 19th century to early 20th century has moved forward producing a number of Nobel Prize Winners. The Hungarian education system which is known to be very effective was almost completed at this time.
