Abstract: Strongly halogen-bonded complexes form between 4-alkoxyphenyl-4-pyridines and iodine as well as the interhalogens ICl and IBr. Examples are characterised by single crystal X-ray crystallography and most complexes show a liquid-crystalline SmA phase.
