An eight-ring phlorotannin from the brown alga Himanthalia elongata☆

From an acetylated fraction of Himanthalia elongata extract, an eight-ring phenolacetate was isolated and its structure elucidated with the aid of field desorption mass spectrometry and other spectroscopic methods.
