Abstract

Despite significant improvements in our health care systems, cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a major cause of death across the world. All features of epigenetic regulation, i.e., DNA methylation, histone modifications, and miRNAs, have now been characterized in the context of CVD. In aggregate, there is substantial evidence that epigenetic mechanisms contribute centrally to the development and progression of CVD.
