Abstract

Observed (red bars) versus simulated numbers (blue) of taxa occurring in marginal habitats in regions of Continental and Arc geology: A) the East Papuan Composite Terrane (EPCT) coded as Arc; and B) with the EPCT coded as Continental. The EPCT region is not strictly an island arc, rather a microcontinent, however geological models suggest a history of isolation similar to island arcs, and that land in this region has only recently accreted onto the present day landmass of New Guinea.
